PROPERTY, PROJECT AND CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION

The plans for the Cridge Village Seniors Centre included renovations to the existing Taylor Building (where the Cridge Centre used to operate its child care programs) as well as the construction of a large, new addition. Check out our construction photos.

Public access to the new Cridge Village Seniors Centre is from Hillside Avenue. Commercial access, (mainly service deliveries), is via the existing road to the Oakwinds Housing complex off Kings Road at the Capital Heights intersection.

The Cridge Village Seniors Centre property incorporates pathways through the trees and meadows thereby creating a pleasant atmosphere and enhancing the park-like setting. Lovely benches are placed in special spots. This arrangement has very minimal impact on the existing Garry Oaks area.

The Cridge Village Seniors Centre is intended for relatively independent and socially active seniors who, with modest levels of support, can continue leading self-directed and active lives.

The Centre is designed and built with features to assist those who have physical challenges.

  1. Kings Road / Empire Street: to the property, the existing entrance at this intersection ceased to exist and a decorative wall was erected.
  2. The existing entrance to the property on Kings Road between Empire Street and Capital Heights is now a parking entry only for Hayward Heights Housing residents.
  3. Kings Road / Capital Heights: the existing road into the Oakwinds Housing Complex parking lot has been extended to provide delivery access to the Seniors Centre rear elevator and additional parking. There is no through traffic access.
  4. Hillside Avenue / Higgins Street: the existing road into the Oaklands Housing Complex provides access to the new road to the new Child Care Centre and the Seniors Centre. The traffic consultants estimated an added vehicle flow count of 15 per hour at the prime P.M. period. This translates into a possible 25-second delay.
  5. The long-term plans for the Cridge Centre Project include additional development along the Hillside Avenue frontage and the creation of a new main entrance to the whole property from Hillside.
